input / output: the influences, work and collections of photographer dave anderson has opened at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Gallery and runs through March 10. This exhibit and accompanying booklet trace the myriad visual influences experienced by one artist and explores the photographic output that has resulted from these influences.

The show features a number of photos by Dave Anderson from his series Roadside Ghosts and Rough Beauty as well as work by others, including: artists he was exposed to at a young age; influential films, music, magazines, and graphic designers; odd found objects collected over the years and Dave's pre-photography creative output.

Capping off the show are selections from Dave's collection of contemporary, vintage and vernacular photography. Images include pieces from past masters as well as established, mid-career and emerging photographers. The group includes:

*Berkman will be a guest artist during the exhibition. He will give a talk on February 17.

A booklet is being published in conjunction with the exhibition with an introduction from co-curator Nathan Larson and a Dave Anderson essay on influences. This 16-page color piece is available in limited quantities. Click here to inquire about a copy.

Dave will attend a Sunday Feb. 1 reception (from 2-4) and will lead a talk about the show on Thursday evening February 5th (from 6-8pm). Featured artist Stephen Berkman will travel in from California for a talk on Tuesday, Feb 17. For more on Stephen, go to his website.

About Dave Anderson
Dave Anderson worked in politics, television and film before becoming a photographer. He has been recognized as "one of the shooting stars of the American photo scene" by Germany's fotoMAGAZIN and named a "Rising Star" by Photo District News. His project Rough Beauty was the winner of Center's 2005 National Project Competition and was published in 2006 by Dewi Lewis Publishing (UK) and Mets & Schilt (Netherlands) with an essay and interview by Anne Wilkes Tucker. Vince Aletti of the New Yorker has called his work "as clear-eyed and unsentimental as it is soulful and sympathetic." His work has been featured in magazines from Esquire to Newsweek and can be found in the collections of various museums including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, George Eastman House and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Born to Quaker parents and raised in East Lansing, Michigan, Dave studied history and film at Oberlin College. He lives in Little Rock, Arkansas with his wife and young son.
